History
FRUTIGER – The road to becoming the world market leader
1957 – Edwin Frutiger founded the first company of the FRUTIGER Group in Switzerland under the name E. Frutiger + Co. – a problem-solver in the construction and environmental sector.
The import of niche products and the development of our own innovative product lines contributed to steady growth.
Milestones in the company history:
- Import of the first scrapedozer into Switzerland.
- Company relocation from Zurich to Winterthur.
- Edwin Frutiger’s first trip to Japan.
- First Japanese scrapedozer imported into Switzerland.
- Sale of first drilling excavator.
- Launch of wheel-washing product range.
- Jürg and Urs Frutiger join the Group.
- Start-up of the first company homepage.
- Jürg and Urs Frutiger take over company management.
- Presentation of the world’s first drive-through system, MobyDick Quick.
- Start of development for production of the SR 3000 TIGER.
- Wheel-washing system sales begin in the US. Transfer of production to the Czech Republic.
- FRUTIGER opens a branch in Poland. Presentation of the first scrapedozer, 3000 TIGER.
- Jürg Frutiger leaves the Group. Opening of first branch in Changsha, China. Group celebrates 50th anniversary.
- Swiss parent company changes its name to FRUTIGER Company AG.
- Presentation of the wheel-washing system line MobyDick ConLine. Further development of scrapedozer T-18

2026 – Roots and Wings
From 19 June to 22 June 2026, the Frutiger Group will celebrate a special occasion in Winterthur: the company handover from the second to the third generation. With four days of festivities for employees, friends, and partners of the company, the transfer of the group from Urs Frutiger to his son Mark Frutiger will be honored.
Founded in 1957 by Edwin Frutiger, the Frutiger Group is today an internationally active SME: the company employs nearly 200 people and generates around 90 percent of its turnover abroad. With its own production facilities in China, the Czech Republic, and India, as well as an assembly and distribution center in the USA, the group has a global presence.
For decades, the company has ensured through automated wheel washing systems that wheeled and tracked vehicles are cleaned before leaving construction sites, gravel plants, or other contaminated areas and entering public roads, thereby contributing worldwide to cleanliness and road safety.
The Frutiger Group has its headquarters in Winterthur-Hegi on Stegackerstrasse. In addition to sales management and administration, small-series production and prototype manufacturing also take place here, and innovative solutions are developed in close cooperation with the Zurich University of Applied Sciences. Today, the Winterthur-based company is the global market leader in the field of wheel washing systems.
A first highlight of the four-day festivities will take place on Saturday, 20 June 2026, during an employee celebration: with a handshake between father and son, the company leadership will be symbolically transferred – a tradition-rich moment that celebrates both respect and the entrepreneurial spirit of the family business.
On Sunday, 21 June 2026, the handover will be celebrated with a large festival for friends, partners, and long-time companions of the company on Stegackerstrasse: international delegations from England, the USA, China, India, the Czech Republic, and other European countries will delight guests on site with typical national specialties.
With this celebration, the Frutiger Group looks back on a tradition-rich past and forward to an energetic future – carried by the next generation.
